We have been made aware of Leonard being pulled from general
population and placed in solitary confinement at Lewisburg, PA,
where he is currently incarcerated. We are very concerned for him because of his health
challenges and his age.
Leonard Peltier, American Indian rights activist Leonard Peltier (born
1944) was convicted in the shooting deaths of two Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) agents
at Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota. Leonard was injustly imprisoned for
a crime he did not commit for over 36 years. His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Desmond Tutu,
and Nelson Mandela are among those who have called for his release. Amnesty International calls Leonard
a political prisoner who represents how our country has mistreated indigenous peoples for
centuries and continues to do so.
